What is Shopspotting?
Shopspotting is a self-employed activity on a commission basis: you bring creators, coaches and experts to a shop system for digital products and earn a commission on the revenue-based fee they pay on every sale. The more they sell, the more you earn, every month, for as long as they stay a customer. The model was introduced by Merchavio, so far the only provider (as of October 2026): there you receive 25% of every sales fee plus, on top, 25% of your sellers’ monthly subscription (net).
What does a Shopspotter earn from?
A shop system for digital products takes a small fee on every sale a seller makes, and that fee depends on the price. When the seller sells more, or at higher prices, they pay more in fees. As a Shopspotter, you receive a fixed share of this fee from every seller you have brought to the shop system. That is why your commission grows with your sellers’ revenue.
The money buyers pay for courses, coaching or downloads belongs to the seller. So you don’t get a cut of their revenue itself, but of the fee they pay on it. Commission only arises when a seller actually pays, but then it arises again every month, for as long as they stay a customer.
What comes on top at Merchavio?
At Merchavio, every seller also pays a fixed plan each month. You receive 25% of that too, on top, like a classic referral commission. So at Merchavio it is 25% of every sales fee and 25% of the plan, both net: the basis is what the seller actually pays, after discounts and without VAT. The plan share is a fixed base per seller; the share of the sales fees grows with their revenue.
A short example
A coach on the Growth plan sells her €50 course 200 times a month. For that she pays Merchavio €49 for the plan and €210 in fees. Your share: €64.75 a month. This is an example, not an average and not a promise (prices as of October 2026). The page on what a Shopspotter earns breaks the amount down.
Where does the name come from?
The word combines “shop” and “spotting”, as in noticing something and picking it out. A Shopspotter spots people who want to sell their knowledge online and need a shop for it. That might be the yoga teacher who wants to offer her classes as a membership, the consultant with a finished workshop or the designer with templates to download. The Shopspotter recognises the need and points them to a shop system that fits.
Who is involved in Shopspotting?
The Shopspotter
Recommends the shop system and shares a personal link for it. Every payment their sellers make to the shop system earns them commission.
The seller
A creator, coach or expert who signs up through that link and sells digital products with the shop system.
The shop system
Provides the shop, checkout and courses, calculates the commission and pays it out. So far, that is Merchavio.
What a Shopspotter does in detail, and what they should bring, is covered on the page about the role of a Shopspotter.
Is Shopspotting a self-employed activity?
Yes. As a Shopspotter, you work on your own account and on a commission basis. Nobody sets your tasks or hours: you decide when, how often and through which channels you recommend, within the partner terms. You only earn when your sellers actually pay.
That is why, in principle, anyone who works self-employed can take part: as a freelancer, with an agency, as a company or as a small business, full-time or alongside their main work. It is not possible as a private individual, because commission is settled by self-billing credit note, which needs business details. You don’t need a shop of your own, and taking part is free. The requirements in detail are under who can become a Shopspotter.
Where do you do Shopspotting?
The model was introduced by Merchavio, a platform for selling digital products, and so far Merchavio is the only provider (as of October 2026). So you do Shopspotting through Merchavio. That is why this site, which Merchavio runs itself, uses Merchavio’s offer as its example, and all the numbers here are Merchavio’s. There you get your own free Shopspotter account with an area where you see your link, your sellers and your commission. How the money flows from the buyer to you is shown on the page about Shopspotting at Merchavio.
