ShopspottingThe commission model explained

How do I find sellers with a podcast as a Shopspotter?

In short

A podcast reaches people who listen to you regularly and trust you for that reason. Say at the very start of the episode that it contains an ad for Merchavio, and say it again out loud when the section with the recommendation begins. Your show notes carry the link with “Ad” right next to it, and you read out your short link for everyone who can’t type right now.

Why does a podcast suit Shopspotting?

Listeners of a podcast about self-employment, coaching or selling knowledge often stay for weeks and know your voice and your views. A tool you recommend carries weight with them, which is exactly why the recommendation has to be honest and clearly recognisable as an ad.

What a recommendation earns you, at Merchavio 25% of every sales fee plus 25% of the monthly subscription, net, is worked through in how the commission is calculated.

Which episodes suit a recommendation?

The episode helps your listeners with their topic first; the recommendation is one section, not the whole episode. Ideas:

  • “What do I sell my first course with?” What a system needs to do: sales page, payment, course access, customer list. At the end, say what you recommend and why.
  • “Membership or one-off purchase?” What speaks for each model, with examples from your work.
  • “Who owns my customer list?” What it means to sell under your own name. With Merchavio, the money goes straight into the seller’s own Stripe account, and customer data can be exported as CSV.
  • Interview with a seller: how someone built their offer. More on this below.

How do you label the mention in the episode?

Say the word “Ad” or “Advertisement” clearly, in the language of your podcast, in two places.

One sentence at the start of the episode

In the intro, say briefly what is coming: “This episode includes a section with an ad for Merchavio.”

Out loud at the start of the section

Before you talk about Merchavio, say it again, for example:

“The next part is an ad. I recommend Merchavio as a Shopspotter and receive a commission if you use Merchavio through my link. Here’s why I recommend it for this case: …”

Then speak as usual: what the system can do and who it suits, or suits less well. Quote prices and features only as they appear on merchavio.com, ideally with a date, such as “from €19 a month net, as of October 2026”. One sentence closes the section: “That’s the end of the ad, on to the next question.”

What goes in the show notes?

In the show notes, the label sits right next to the link, near the top rather than hidden at the bottom: “Ad: see Merchavio”, then the link and a sentence saying you receive a commission if someone uses Merchavio through it. An asterisk without explanation, or just “partner link”, is not enough. Check in the apps your listeners use, on a phone too, that label and link appear together.

Someone listening on a walk or while cooking can’t type straight away, so:

  • Use the short link from your Shopspotter area. It is only a little shorter than the referral link, so read it out slowly and spell out any part that is easy to get wrong.
  • Say where to find it: “You’ll also find the link in the show notes.”
  • Repeat it once at the end of the section.

Only a visit through your link can count. Whether a signup days later is still attributed to you depends on the visitor’s cookie consent; see how the Shopspotter link works.

Conversations with people who sell digital products are especially useful. Three rules:

  • Real guests only with real experience, no invented or staged conversations.
  • Consent beforehand: your guest knows that Merchavio will come up and that you receive a commission, and agrees to being named along with their shop. Never use details from your Shopspotter area to find or approach guests.
  • Processes, not revenue: ask how your guest built their offer and why they chose their system. Leave out figures that could sound like a promise to your listeners.

Your own podcast or someone else’s: what applies?

Your podcast name, accounts and domain don’t contain “Merchavio” or a similar spelling. You speak as yourself, not for Merchavio.

If you are a guest on someone else’s podcast and want to recommend Merchavio, agree with the host beforehand that the label goes at the start of the episode and right next to the link in the show notes. If that isn’t possible, leave the recommendation out. If you pay for an ad slot on someone else’s podcast, it is a paid ad: the link must lead to your own content, not straight to merchavio.com. Your next step

Pick an episode where the question of the system comes up anyway and write the labelled section in advance. How to explain Merchavio in a few sentences is shown in how to recommend Merchavio well.
