Which sellers are a good fit for Merchavio?
Merchavio suits people who sell digital products or plan to: online courses, coaching, memberships, communities, downloads or livestreams. It fits especially well when someone is stitching several tools together today and wants to sell under their own brand with their own customer data. Anyone who sells nothing digital and has no plans to is not a good fit.
How do you recognise a good fit?
These five signs suggest that Merchavio is a good fit. The more of them apply, the more worthwhile the conversation.
- Digital products. They sell online courses, coaching, memberships, paid communities, e-books, templates, livestreams or workshops, or they plan to.
- Several tools. Website, course area, payments, newsletter and community run separately today, with several logins and double maintenance.
- Their own brand. They want to sell under their own name, with their own domain and their own look.
- Their own customer data. It matters to them that the customer relationship stays with them and that they can export their customer list as a CSV at any time.
- Customers in the EU. They mainly sell to customers in the EU and value a platform hosted in the EU.
Everyday examples
The yoga teacher
She teaches classes in person and wants to start an online membership with live sessions and recordings.
The photographer
He sells presets as downloads and is planning a video course on photo editing.
The business coach
Her group programme runs on four tools: website, payments, course area and a group for discussion.
The language teacher
He teaches one to one and wants to turn that into an online course with a subscription.
These examples are made up and show common starting points. What Merchavio offers for cases like these is in what Shopspotters recommend.
Which questions help you judge?
Instead of guessing, ask. These questions fit into any conversation without sounding like a sales pitch:
- “What do you sell today, and what do you want to add next?” Tells you whether digital products are involved.
- “Which tools do you use right now, and what takes up most of your time?” Tells you whether one system with one login would help.
- “Should your offer run under your own name and domain?” Tells you how much their own brand matters.
- “How important is it that your customer list stays with you?” Tells you whether owning customer data is an issue.
- “Do you sell one-off, by subscription or both? Are you planning live formats?” Tells you which features they need.
- “Where are your customers based?” Tells you whether EU hosting is an advantage.
When is Merchavio not the right fit?
An honest no is part of the job. In these cases Merchavio is usually not the right fit:
- Nothing digital. The person doesn’t sell digital products and has no plans to. Merchavio is a system for digital products.
- Happy with their current system. They see no reason to switch.
- The platform should take care of VAT. Merchavio is not a merchant of record: sellers sell themselves, under their own name, and handle their own VAT. There is no automatic tax calculation at checkout. Merchavio prepares the documents for it.
- An app in the app stores. Merchavio offers an installable web app with the seller’s own name and icon, not an app you download from an app store.
In these cases, say openly that Merchavio isn’t the right choice. It costs you one signup and earns you trust.
Why does checking honestly matter?
Your commission comes from every payment your seller makes, every month, for as long as they stay a customer and you take part. How long that can be is explained in how long you receive commission. A seller Merchavio suits is more likely to stay. If they sell more, your share of the sales fees grows too.
A seller you talk into something often notices during the trial. If they cancel, no new commission arises from them. If one of their payments to Merchavio is refunded or charged back, the commission on it is reversed too. Then there is your reputation: someone who was disappointed once won’t ask for your advice a second time.
That is why the best suggestion is often the simplest one: try Merchavio free for 5 days first. Then the seller decides for themselves.
What comes next?
Once you have found someone it suits, it comes down to the conversation. How to present Merchavio then is shown in the guide to recommending it well.
