How does the Shopspotter link work?
Your Shopspotter link is a personal link you find in your Shopspotter area as a referral link and as a short link. If someone signs up to Merchavio through it, they are attributed to you as a seller. If the visitor allowed cookies, the last link used within 90 days before signup counts; otherwise only a signup in the same visit, without reloading the page, counts.
Where do I find my link?
Your Shopspotter area shows two versions of your personal link, each with a copy button: the referral link and the slightly shorter short link. Both lead to the merchavio.com home page, and for attribution it makes no difference which version someone uses. Pick whichever suits the place better, for example the short link on a slide.
When is a seller attributed to me?
A seller is attributed to you when they sign up to Merchavio through your link and this is technically recorded at signup. They don’t have to sign up right away. Whether attribution still works later depends on whether they allow cookies:
| Visitor | What counts |
|---|---|
| allows cookies | Your link is stored in their browser. If they sign up within 90 days, they are attributed to you, provided yours was the last link used. |
| doesn’t allow cookies | Only a signup in the same visit counts, without the page being reloaded. |
What does “last link used” mean?
If someone first clicks your link and a few days later clicks another Shopspotter’s link, the other one counts. If they then come back through your link, you count again. What matters is the last link before signup, as long as it is no older than 90 days.
Does the signup count, or the purchase?
The signup. From then on the seller is attributed to you, even if they try Merchavio free for 5 days first. Commission arises as soon as they pay Merchavio anything, their plan or the fee on a sale. The free trial itself doesn’t earn commission yet. What your share looks like is shown in how much a Shopspotter earns.
Can an attribution be changed afterwards?
No. Every account belongs to exactly one Shopspotter, and that stays that way. Merchavio doesn’t reassign accounts to another Shopspotter afterwards. There are no estimated or reconstructed attributions either: what wasn’t technically recorded doesn’t count. If someone signed up without your link even though they came from you, that can’t be changed.
That is why it is worth thinking about the link at the moment you recommend.
How do I use the link well?
Where the decision is made
A link works best at the point where someone is deciding what to sell with: in a blog post right after the part about how you set up your course, at the top of a video description rather than the bottom, in the handout for your workshop. The link always has “Ad” or “Advertisement” right next to it.
Openly ask people to sign up through your link
If someone tells you in conversation that they want to try Merchavio, you can ask them to sign up through your link. Say openly that you receive a commission for it. Don’t promise them a benefit for signing up through your link; that would only be allowed with Merchavio’s prior consent in text form. Attribution is most reliable when they sign up right after the click. Whether they allow cookies is their own choice.
Track clicks in your area
Your Shopspotter area shows the clicks of the last 30 days with the conversion, plus the number of your referrals, paying and in total. The figures cover your link as a whole, across all places together. If clicks rise clearly after a new post, that is a hint, not proof, that it works.
What isn’t allowed with the link?
- Triggering the link without a conscious click, for example via invisible frames, pop-unders, automatic redirects, hidden links or scripts.
- Using programs or browser extensions that insert links automatically or overwrite other people’s attributions.
- Sending the link by email, direct message, text or in comments to people who haven’t consented beforehand.
- Sending paid ad traffic straight to merchavio.com, including through your link.
- Signing up yourself or further accounts of your own through your link.
The other rules, from ads to coupons, are in what is allowed in Shopspotting and what isn’t. How ads that lead to your own content work is covered in ads as a Shopspotter.
