ShopspottingThe commission model explained

What happens if the partner terms change?

In short

Merchavio can change the partner terms for the future if there is an objective reason, and tells you at least 30 days before the change takes effect, in text form. If you don’t object by then, the change counts as accepted; instead of objecting, you can also cancel without notice. For the commission rates of sellers you have already referred, grandfathering applies: new rates only apply to sellers referred afterwards.

When and how will you hear about a change?

Merchavio can change the partner terms, but only for the future and only if there is an objective reason. Merchavio tells you what is changing at least 30 days before it takes effect, in text form, for example by email.

The notice points out three things separately: that the change counts as accepted if you don’t object, that you have the right to object, and how long you have to do so.

What “for the future” means

A change applies from the day it takes effect. Whatever happened before stays as it was. Commission you earned up to then is not recalculated afterwards.

What are your options?

Until the change takes effect, you choose one of three routes:

Accept

You agree and don’t need to do anything. If you don’t object before the change takes effect, it counts as accepted.

Object

You disagree and say so in text form before the change takes effect, for example by email to Merchavio.

Cancel

Instead of objecting, you end your participation without notice before the change takes effect. How that works is covered in how to cancel Shopspotting.

So the effective date is what matters. The notice tells you the deadline. Put it in your calendar straight away, because without an objection the change counts as accepted from then on.

What applies after an objection?

The partner terms don’t cover this separately. Merchavio’s general terms, which apply in addition, say for businesses: if you object, the previous terms continue to apply to you, and Merchavio can terminate with the agreed notice period. For Shopspotting, that is 30 days.

What does grandfathering protect?

For sellers you have already referred, section 11 of the partner terms applies: if Merchavio changes commission rates or other conditions, the changes only apply to sellers referred afterwards. Your existing sellers keep the conditions that applied when you referred them. Section 16 refers to this explicitly for the commission rates of sellers already referred.

The rate that applies to each seller is shown in the list of your sellers in your Shopspotter area. What else the list shows is covered in the tour of the Shopspotter area.

An example

Say you referred a seller on the Growth plan who sells a course for €50 200 times a month. From their sales fees you receive €52.50, plus €12.25 from their subscription, €64.75 a month in total. If Merchavio later changes the rate for new sellers, this seller stays at 25%. The new rate only applies to sellers you refer after the change.

This is an example, not an average and not a promise. No such change has been announced. Prices as of October 2026, all amounts net.

What if prices change rather than the rate?

Merchavio sets the plan prices and the fees per sale. Your commission is always a share of what a seller actually pays. If that amount changes, the amount of your commission changes. The rate itself does not.

Two hypothetical figures, not an announcement: if the Growth plan cost €10 more, so €59, you would get €14.75 from it instead of €12.25 a month. If it cost €10 less, it would be €9.75. The fee per sale works the same way. The full calculation is in how the commission is calculated.

What do the partner terms fix for every change?

  • Notice: at least 30 days before the change takes effect, in text form, pointing out your right to object and the deadline.
  • Only for the future: commission you have already earned stays as it is.
  • Grandfathering: new commission rates only apply to sellers referred after the change.
  • Your choice: until the change takes effect, you can object or cancel without notice.

What’s next?

The full text is in the partner terms on merchavio.com: section 16 covers changes, section 11 covers grandfathering. The current version is shown there with its date, and also at the very bottom of your Shopspotter area. If a change affects the rules for your advertising, it is worth looking over your existing posts. The current rules are explained in what is allowed in Shopspotting, and how long commission runs in how long you receive commission.
