ShopspottingThe commission model explained

What is a Shopspotter?

In short

A Shopspotter is someone who brings creators, coaches and experts to a suitable shop system for digital products: they spot who wants to sell online, recommend the shop system and share a personal link for it. They work self-employed on a commission basis and receive a share of the fee on every sale their sellers make, at Merchavio 25% of it plus 25% of the subscription on top. They don’t need a shop of their own.

What does a Shopspotter actually do?

The role comes down to four tasks. The first three are always part of it, the fourth is optional.

Spot people who want to sell

A Shopspotter pays attention to who around them wants to sell knowledge or an offer online: a course, coaching, a membership, an e-book or a workshop. These can be people who are just starting out, or people who stitch several tools together today.

Recommend Merchavio honestly

They explain why Merchavio suits this particular person. Prices and features are quoted as they appear on merchavio.com, and personal experience is labelled as such. What they can explain is covered in the overview of what Shopspotters recommend.

Share the Shopspotter link

Every Shopspotter has a personal link, as a referral link and as a short link. When someone signs up through it, they are assigned to that Shopspotter as a seller. The recommendation is labelled as advertising, right next to the link or at the start of the post. When the assignment counts is explained on the page about the Shopspotter link.

Support sellers if they like

Anyone who wants to can help their sellers with setup, their offer or marketing and charge their own fee for it. The commission doesn’t depend on it.

What does the role look like day to day?

The role comes up most naturally where you already work with people who sell online. A few situations:

  • At an agency or as a freelancer: a client wants to sell an online course, and the question of which shop system to use comes up in the project. If Merchavio fits, you suggest it and mention that you receive a commission. More in Shopspotting for agencies.
  • In coaching or consulting: a client is putting her first offer online and asks what to sell it with. More in Shopspotting for coaches.
  • As a creator: in a post about selling digital products, you recommend Merchavio, labelled as an ad right by the link or at the start. More in Shopspotting for creators.
  • As a seller: you sell with Merchavio yourself, and someone asks you what your shop runs on.

What should a Shopspotter bring?

  • Contacts with people who sell digital products or want to, or your own content that such people read, watch or listen to.
  • A willingness to recommend honestly: only where Merchavio really fits, and without promising income or success.
  • Taking part as a business, for example as a freelancer, agency or company. Small businesses exempt from VAT and businesses from other countries can join too.
  • Care with the rules: label advertising and only send messages to people who have agreed to it beforehand.

How is a Shopspotter different from a seller?

As a Shopspotter, you don’t need a shop of your own, a plan or a trial, and there is nothing to buy. One person can be both, though, with two separate accounts, each with its own login. Referring yourself is not allowed: your own seller account earns no commission. How the two accounts fit together is covered under whether you need your own shop.

How do you become a Shopspotter?

You create a free account on merchavio.com, with email and password or with Google, and accept the partner terms and confirm that you take part as a business. Your link is then waiting in your Shopspotter area. How to carry on from there is explained in the guide to starting as a Shopspotter.
